“TRANSFORMA” WINS DANPER’S KUNAN “EDUCATE TO TRANSFORM” CHALLENGE

10 November, 2021

Ongoing events have not deterred the efforts of social enterprises, small businesses that were born to tackle Peru’s most pressing social and environmental challenges, in the framework of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. To further add momentum and recognition to their efforts, Kunan launched the 7th edition of Peru’s most widely recognized social entrepreneurship award, the Kunan Challenge, to identify and reward outstanding innovators.

In 2021, the Kunan Challenge received support from the United Nations, Help Peru, Movistar, the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima, NESsT Peru and other organizations. In addition, Parque Arauco, AFP Integra, Cálidda, Fundación Belcorp, Tasa and Danper sponsored the six categories of the Kunan 2021 Challenge, demonstrating the private sector is a great ally to develop social entrepreneurship. Each category received the support of government and third sector organizations. For the first time, we have six categories and a major prize worth 50,000 soles.

Kunan’s Grand Prize and Categories

All the undertakings applying for the Kunan Challenge participated to be chosen as finalists and win 50,000 soles (about 12500 USD; January 21, 2022), regardless of their industry or issue they addressed. However, winner will be chosen as well in each of the five categories detailed below.

For the third consecutive year, the senior entrepreneurs category recognition, the “Unstoppable Adults”, was awarded thanks to AFP Integra. With help of Cálida, came recognition for “Sustainable Cities” while Parque Arauco sponsored the “Emprende Retail” category. Fundación Belcorp chose to recognize ventures that generate economic development opportunities for vulnerable women in the “Impulsa Mujer” category while Tasa recognized initiatives in the “Circular Economy” category. Finally, aware of daily local realities, Danper sponsored the “Educate to Transform” category.

All categories offered technical support and S/.15,000 to the winner, except for Parque Arauco, which gave two exhibition kiosks for a period of 4 months at the Larcomar Shopping Center and/or Mega Plaza Mall.
