DANPER BECOMES LA LIBERTAD’S 1ST AGRIBUSINESS COMPANY EXPORTING BLUEBERRIES TO INDIA

Asian giant authorities greenlight blueberries sales strengthening Peru as world’s leading exporter.

The export of blueberries grown in La Libertad is making headways in new lands thanks as Danper enters the vast and competitive Indian market. The agribusiness company, whose management model based on the creation of shared value connects the efficiency of its investments and its economic profitability with the progress of its people and communities, will be the first from Peru’s La Libertad department to export to India after authorities there gave approved sales of Peruvian blueberries and citrus fruits in their market, reported Peru’s Exports and Tourism Board (Promperú).

Opportunities for the region

Foreign sales of fresh fruits such as quality blueberries grown in La Libertad are on a fast track.  Shipments in 2021-2022 are expected to create over 150,000 jobs, mainly for women. For this season, shipments are expected to exceed 230 million kilos.

The pandemic opened a window of opportunity that Danper, as a national leader in the export of fresh fruits and fine vegetables, has capitalized to create new dignified and inclusive employment for the more than 10,000 workers who benefit from health programs, skill building and promotion of gender equality that the company has promoted since its foundation.

According to India’s Processed and Agricultural Export Development Authority (APEDA), blueberry is a relatively new product. However, demand is growing rapidly in the upper-middle and upper socioeconomic sectors of India, a country of over 1.38 billion people.

Indian consumers looking for new products from exotic origins such as blueberries, and aware of the berry’s heart and brain health benefits, are a key potential market for Peruvian and La Libertad exports.
