Danper has earned the EmpowerHer Company award, a global recognition given annually by Global Women Fresh, an association fostering gender equality and the empowerment of women in the fresh produce and food sector worldwide. The Peruvian agribusiness stood out among 50 short-listed companies from the six continents.

The EmpowerHER Company award aims to identify companies standing out for their efforts to foster the inclusion of women in the objectives and vision of the organization. Danper, since its foundation, has fought head-on against discrimination in all its forms and against gender violence, and has firmly supported equality. The company is persuaded equity is a requirement for its sustainability and the progress of the country.

Danper’s efforts along this line include ongoing training of all its workers on gender issues, such as gender biases, stereotypes, and violence. These efforts, which are channeled through its Victoria program, are also aimed at high school students who become agents of change in their communities.

Also noteworthy are Danper’s development programs and initiatives, such as its CEBA Alternative Basic Education program that it carries out hand in hand with the Ministry of Education. This program enables Danper’s workers, many of whom are women, to complete their schooling. Its Empowered Scholarships program helps women staff to pursue master’s studies.

Danper is the first Peruvian company and the only agribusiness Peruvian Enterprise holding EDGE international certification, a leading global standard for gender equality. This standard ensures that the organization has in place a structured and systematic approach for measuring, monitoring, and bridging the gender gap through both quantitative and qualitative indicators.

It is also Peru’s first agro-industrial company that, since its inception 27 years ago, provides free health services to workers and their children within its own facilities. Health care provided exclusive services for women, such as pregnancy control, reproductive health, healthy child controls, psychological support groups, ultrasound, breastfeeding training, gynecology, among other health care services that remained uninterrupted throughout the ongoing health emergency.

Danper’s EmpowerHer Company award was announced during the World of Fresh Ideas global event, held virtually at the end of May, which also featured talks, interviews, and interactive debates with leading global experts from the produce and fresh food industry.
